Dr. Das is a fellow of National Academy of Sciences, India. He was holding the post of Joint Director, Medical & Health Services at Ispat General Hospital, Rourkela, a 700 bed modern hospital, before moving to Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India, Department of Biotechnology as an Adviser (Scientist G). He was responsible for promoting stem cell research in the country and have organized several large, multicentric clinical trials. On superannuation from the Department of Biotechnology, Dr.Das joined Indian Council of Medical Research, as an Emeritus Medical Scientist. Dr. Das completed his MD in Biochemistry from Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi. He received training on clinical nutrition from National Institute of Nutrition, ICMR, Hyderabad, MRC Dunn Nutrition Laboratories (currently, MRC Human Nutrition Research), University, Cambridge, and at the University of Ulster, Northern Ireland. His main research interest is nutrition, infection and pathogenesis of falciparum malaria. He was awarded “Dr. MOT Iyenger Award” by Indian Council of Medical Research for his contributions in falciparum malaria research. Currently, he is Head, Research & Development, Asian Institute of Public Health, Bhubaneswar; Clinical Advisor, and Chairman of the Ethical Committee of Institute of Life Sciences, Bhubaneswar.
