Debasish Deb is presently working as an Assistant Professor in the School of Biological Sciences. Prior to joining he has worked as an Adjunct Lecturer in Department of Botany, G.C. College, Silchar, Assam and Guest Faculty in P.G. Department of Botany, Utkal University, Bhubaneswar, Odisha where he taught Plant Diversity, Plant Biochemistry and Angiosperm Taxonomy. He completed his Master degree in Botany from Assam University in 2012. He worked as a DST-INSPIRE fellow in Division of Plant and Microbial Biotechnology, Institute of Life Sciences, Bhubaneswar from 2014-2019. He recently submitted his PhD in Life Sciences (Plant Pathology) to Utkal University. He has been awarded university gold medal in Botany from Assam University (2013) and has qualified GATE Life Sciences (2013; with A.I.R 18), SLET-NE Life Sciences (2012) and Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR)-NET in Plant Pathology (2018). He has experience and research interest in the field of Plant Pathology, Angiosperm Taxonomy, Plant Diversity, Plant Anatomy and Molecular biology. His area of specialization includes development of chimeric promoters and raising of biotic stress tolerant transgenic plants. His long-term goal is to study the patterns of secondary growth in tropical plants and fungal diseases of ornamentals.
