The honourable Prime Minister Sri Narendra Modi declared the country to be open defecation free (ODF) and launched the second phase of Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) referred to as the SBM Urban 2 (SBM-U), and Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT). For this, the objective has been set to make the Indian cities garbage-free and ensure water safety. In this phase, the focus is on sewage and safety management, and segregation of solid waste in a phase wise manner through scientific methods. These measures would result in the reduction, reuse and recycling of waste and prevent the merger of sewage into the rivers.
