Every year on October 2nd, India celebrates Gandhi Jayanti, a day dedicated to honouring the life and legacy of Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation. This day serves as a reminder of the principles and philosophies this great leader advocated throughout his life. One of these enduring ideals is the concept of “Swachh Bharat,” with the theme “Swabhav Swachhata- Sanskar Swachhata”. Swachh Bharat Abhiyan: A Vision of Cleanliness : The Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, initiated by the Government of India, is a nationwide campaign to fulfil Mahatma Gandhi’s dream of a clean and hygienic India. Gandhi’s vision was not just limited to political independence; it also encompassed the idea of a society where cleanliness and hygiene are upheld as a way of life. He believed that a clean environment was a civic duty and a moral responsibility. AIPHU's Commitment to Swachhata hi Seva Abhiyan : This Gandhi Jayanti, AIPHU proudly joined the Swachhata hi Seva Abhiyan, all AIPHU staff and students came together to take action. It was a mega cleanliness drive as part of the "Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign" ahead of Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti, India's observance of Swachhata Hi Seva. Leading by Example: Cleaning Our Surroundings : On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, October 2, 2024, we, the AIPHU staff and students, armed with brooms and garbage bags, cleaned up the surroundings of our university while emphasizing the importance of cleanliness. Our dedication to this cause serves as a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi. His unwavering commitment to cleanliness and sanitation is integral to building a healthy and harmonious society. Spreading Awareness and Encouraging Clean Habits : Our efforts continue after cleaning. We also pledged to create awareness among our friends and family about the significance of cleanliness. We understand that to make “Swachhata hi Seva Abhiyan” a reality, we must change our surroundings and mindset. Instilling the habit of not littering on the streets and disposing of waste in garbage bins is essential. This small change can have a massive impact on our environment and society.
