Integrated Master of Physiotherapy (IMPT)

This is a six years academic program, divided into two parts; Part I (4 yrs.) and Part II (2 yrs.). With the successful completion at the end of the Part-I course, the student will receive a Graduate Degree (Bachelors in Physiotherapy-BPT)

Career opportunities for a graduate physical therapist, BPT, are:
  • Tertiary healthcare centres with rehabilitation settings or intensive care settings or both. Also, nursing homes and hospitals catering to specific medical health care like cardiac care, general surgical care, neurological care etc.
  • Charitable trust OPD’s and polyclinics
  • Specialized pain clinics, sports clinics
  • Industrial setup’s
  • Community centres, Geriatric nursing homes
  • General Fitness and Wellness centres
  • Physiotherapy service providers
  • Practice independently in private clinics
  • Practice independently- home visits
After successful completion of the Part-II of the academic program, the student will receive a Postgraduate Degree, MPT(Hons).

In the 5th year, the theoretical basis of physiotherapy is refreshed along with research methodology, biostatistics & teaching tools. The students are rotated in all areas of clinical expertise including their specialty during this period. During the 6th year, the students are posted in their area of specialty. They are required to complete and submit their dissertation. The learning program includes seminars, journal reviews, case presentations, case discussions and classroom teaching.

The postgraduate physical therapist will be trained and equipped with the following:
  • Expertise in Evidence-based skill in the management of disorders including movement dysfunction in the related specialty.
  • Expertise in Health Promotion, early identification and intervention for quality of life & restoration of function.
  • Expertise in adequate and appropriate planning and implementation of treatment programs for all clinical conditions, common as well as rare related to the respective specialty in the acute and chronic stage, in intensive care, indoor, outdoor and institutional care, independent practice, on fields of sports and community and during disaster situations.
  • The pedagogy comprises clinical learning in postings, experiential learning, interactive classroom seminars, individual and class case presentations, journal article critical appraisals, supervised classroom teaching, demonstrations and supervised practical, guest lectures, camps, field visits, managerial assignments and a research dissertation. The teaching-learning process lays emphasis on leadership and integrative thinking as peer group learning.

Training Method

The training of postgraduate for MPT(Hons) degree shall be on a full-time pattern with graded responsibilities in the management and treatment of patients entrusted to his / her care. The participation of every student in all facets of the educational process is essential. Every candidate should take part in seminars, group discussions, clinical rounds, care demonstrations, clinics, journal review meetings and CME. Training includes involvement in laboratory/experimental work and research studies.


A candidate is required to attend a minimum of 80% of training and of the total classes conducted during each semester in all courses. Provided further, leave of any kind shall not be counted as part of academic term without prejudice to minimum 80% of training period every year. Any student who fails to complete the course in this manner shall not be permitted to appear in the University Examinations. A candidate who does not satisfy the requirement of attendance even in one subject will not be permitted to appear for University Examination. S/he will be required to make up the deficit in attendance to become eligible to take the subsequent examination.
  • Should have passed two-year Pre-University examination with English as one of the subjects, along with Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
  • The candidate for admission to MPT(Hons) course must have passed the two-year pre-university examination individually in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English and must have obtained not less than 50% total marks. For candidates who belong to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes or Category PH (Physically Challenged), the marks obtained in Physics, Chemistry and Biology together in qualifying examination should not be less than 40% (SC/ST) and 45%(PH) respectively instead of 50% as above.
  • Final selection will be based on a combination of qualifying examination marks and interview performance.
  • One time Admission Fees Rs. 10000/-
  • Full time 6 years program
  • Fees per year Rs. 1,50,000/- (Rs. 75,000/- per semester)
